Academic Calendar


 

 


Fall and spring terms are 16 weeks in length: Fall starts around late August or early September and goes through mid December.  Spring starts around early January and goes through mid-May.  Summer sessions vary in length from 4 weeks to 12 weeks, May through August, with classes typically meeting Monday through Friday.

Courses are available on the main campus in Madison, in Sioux Falls and by Internet/distance through the Office of Extended Programs which coordinates Internet and distance offerings. 

NOTE:

No student will be required to participate in more than three evaluative activities on any one day of the final exam week. Permission to reschedule a final evaluative activity should be sought before mid-semester if at all possible. The student, after consulting with his or her advisor, should petition the dean(s) responsible for the activity(ies) to be changed by completing the “Finals Week” form which is available online at http://www.dsu.edu/academics/forms.aspx   The dean(s) will coordinate and approve the necessary rescheduling. Any changes or deviations in the schedule for an individual student must have advance approval of the dean in whose college the course is taught.

Sept. 6 (Fri) Tuition and Fees - Deadline for payment or payment plan to avoid cancellation of registration and late fee assessment
Sept 17 (Tue) Constitution Day
Sept 27 (Fri) Inauguration - no classes from 2:30 - 5:00 pm
Oct. 1 (Tues) Last day to apply for Fall 2013 Graduation
Oct 2 (Wed) University-wide Listening Day - no classes
Oct. 14 (Mon) Native American Day - no classes
Oct. 18 (Thurs) Last day of first half semester classes
Oct. 28 - Nov. 15 (Mon-Fri) Continuing student pre-registration for Spring 2014 and Summer 2014
Oct. 30 (Wed) Last day a student can contact the University to withdraw from the University and be eligible for refund of University charges based on federal regulations and Board of Regents policy.  Students can not withdraw from all classes online in WebAdvisor.  Students must contact the University for a refund to calculate correctly.
Nov. 8 (Fri) Last day to withdraw from a full semester course or school and receive a grade of “W”
Nov. 11 (Mon) Veterans’ Day observed - no classes
Nov. 27-Dec. 1 (Wed-Sun) Thanksgiving holiday - no classes

     How to read the table:

          If you have an 11:00am class on T, TTH, TH or MTWTHF (first class contact), your exam is
     Thursday, December 12th from 10:30am. - 12:30pm.

          If you have a 1:00pm class on M, W, MW, MWF, WF, MTWTH, MTWF or F (first class
     contact), then your exam is Monday, December 16th from 1:00 - 3:00pm.

     All Tuesday, Thursday combination courses are on December 12th and December 17th.

     All Monday, Wednesday, Friday combination courses are on December 13th, December 16th,
     & December 18th.
