The Associate of Arts degree in General Studies provides opportunities for students still undecided about their careers to explore possible educational and career options. It also serves as an entry program for students desiring to seek admission to baccalaureate or professional programs, either at Dakota State University or at another institution.

Graduates of this degree program will be expected to demonstrate their achievement of the general education objectives of the Board of Regents, to understand current and emerging computer-based technologies, and to use the basic skills of information processing.

System-wide General Education Requirement (SGE) (24 Credits)


GOAL 1: Written Communication (6 Credits)


GOAL 2: Oral Communication (3 Credits)


GOAL 6: Natural Sciences (3 Credits)


General Education Elective (3 credits)


Students will choose one additional course from Goal 3, Goal 4 or Goal 6. 

Note the following when choosing:

Goal 3 Social Sciences, choose a course in a different discipline. 

Goal 4 Arts and Humanities, choose a course in a different discipline or in a sequence of foreign language courses.  ART and ARTH are considered one discipline.

Goal 6 Natural Sciences, combinations not permitted because of excessive duplication are BIOL 101 and BIL 151; CHEM 106 and CHEM 112; CHEM 108 and CHEM 114; PHYS 111 and PHYS 211; or PHYS 113 and PHYS 213.
