Students majoring in this program will be prepared to work as chemists, physicists, or data science specialists for industry and state and federal scientific and healthcare agencies. They will also be well prepared to pursue masters and doctoral degrees in chemistry, physics, engineering, or medicine. This program provides superior training for students seeking to work as physical or biological scientists and for those seeking to apply computer science principles and practices to solving cutting-edge problems in the sciences and medicine. The program also provides a strong background in mathematics and computational physics, chemistry, and biology aimed at preparing students to work in and across as many sectors as possible. Graduates of the program will be very broadly trained to enter industry and government workforces in traditional technical positions available to physicists, chemists, biologists, data scientists, and computer support or information systems specialists. This combination of traditional physical and life sciences and modern computational methods will be especially valuable in scientific, data science, and computationally intensive industries. With the increasingly scientific, computational, and technical demands of the 21st Century workplace, this kind of background in the traditional sciences and computer science and technology is increasingly necessary.

General Education Requirement (30 Credits)
Majors must take CHEM 112 , MATH 123 , and PHYS 111 or PHYS 211 as part of the System-wide General Education Requirements.
Science Component (20 Credits)

Research/Scholarship Component (3 Credits)
Electives* (21 Credits)
*Three of these electives will have been met upon completion of CHEM 112, MATH 123 and PHYS 111 or PHYS 211 as part of the system general education requirements.
Within the electives category, in consultation with their academic advisor(s), students must also take 3 credits of coursework in an appropriate analytical methodologies course relevant to their academic concentration.
Students wanting to prepare for graduate or professional school, or for bachelors-level research-focused career path, or those simply desiring more intensive independent research experiences, may take an additional 3 credits of Undergraduate Research/Scholarship electives in BIOL, CHEM, CIS, CSC, MATH or PHYS. These credits may include relevant academic or industry internship experiences as appropriate.
Concentration Component (15 Credits)
Students are required to complete 15 hours of additional 300-400 level coursework in BIOL, CHEM, CIS, CSC, MATH or PHYS.
