The English Major for Bachelor of Science in Education is designed to prepare graduates to teach composition, literature, and speech in secondary schools. In addition to gaining skills and knowledge of composition and literary study, students learn computer applications for text processing and language analysis. All DSU teacher education graduates complete a K-12 Educational Technology Endorsement program.

Institutional Graduation Requirement (11 Credits)
Majors must take CIS 130 and EPSY 210 as part of the Institutional Graduation Requirement. Note
Students should complete professional education coursework concurrently with general education and content major coursework. Major Requirements (50 Credits)
Take 9 credits from the following courses (9 Credits)
Note:
Students must take 3 credits in American Literature I or II and 3 credits in World Literature I or II. Take 6 credits from the following (6 Credits)
Note: Since content varies, courses may be repeated.
Take 3 credits from the following (3 Credits)
Professional Education Courses (29 Credits)
All Professional Education Courses must be completed with a “C” or better.
1 No grade less than a “C” and must be completed prior to admission to Teacher Education.
2 Requires field experience. Note
Admission to the Teacher Education Program is required for the remaining courses.

Advanced Professional Block
Student Teaching Semester
Admission to Student Teaching is required for enrollment in SEED 488 . See Approval for Student Teaching in College of Education section. SEED 401 is are taught in a compressed format during the first four weeks of the semester and are usually taken in the same semester as student teaching. Minor/Endorsement Programs
