Graduates of the English programs will have a strong background in composition, literature and languages. Students learn to use computer applications to study and create a wide variety of text types. Students complete the English core and then choose one specialization, English for New Media or English Education.
Students who choose the English for New Media specialization are prepared for an emerging market who can manage many aspects of writing and publishing, both in traditional and new media venues. Students learn to read carefully, to write well, and to understand the many ways that an audience can engage. Graduates with this degree can enter the job market as writers and publishing managers for software companies, newspapers and publishing firms, multimedia outlets, and any organization with a public face.
Students who choose the English Education specialization are prepared to teach composition, literature, and speech in secondary schools. In addition to gaining skills and knowledge in composition, literature, and language, students learn to use computer applications to study and create a wide variety of text types. All DSU teacher education graduates complete a K-12 Educational Technology Endorsement program.
