Technology Resources

Information Technology Services provides computing, communications, and technology infrastructure services and support for Dakota State users. The Help Desk provides support for purchasing, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of supported hardware.

Laptop Program

DSU’s Laptop Program is mandatory for all incoming first-time, first-year undergraduate students, all transfer and all continuing & re-admitted students. The laptop is used in general-education courses, so financial aid can be used to pay for the Tablet PC Program.

Classroom Equipment

Information Technology Services also maintains classroom technology equipment. The ITS Classroom Equipment webpage covers audio playback devices, reporting issues, video conferencing and recording capabilities, Panopto conferencing capabilities, connecting room camera and microphones, and controlling room cameras.

Request of New Software and Equipment

Requests for new software and hardware should be submitted to the college dean, who will work with Information Technology Services for purchasing.

Export Control Policy

DSU encourages the international exchange of research and technology, but it must be consistent with the United States’ national security and nonproliferation objectives. The United States’s export-control regulations touch on a wide range of university functions, including human resources, student affairs, international affairs, purchasing and procurement, international travel, information technologies, technology transfer, and research.  See DSU Policy 11.1 and SDBOR Policy 4:48.

Email Usage Policy

Email usage at the university is subject to DSU Policy 14.1, which prohibits solicitation and illegal activities, among other prohibitions.

VoIP Phone System

DSU used VoIP phone system through Microsoft Teams. The Support VoIP webpage provides training on using the VoIP system and customizing the system.

Technology Resources for Instruction

Faculty are encouraged to integrate technology into their instruction to enhance learning for students. Examples may include utilizing technology for formative assessment, video creation, collaboration, and simulations to name a few. The information in this handbook is not intended to be a comprehensive explanation of best practices associated with technology integration and resources, but instead a jumping off point to learn more.
