South Dakota University Governance


Board of Regents

The Board of Regents has the constitutional responsibility for governing the Unified System of Public Higher Education in South Dakota, which encompasses supervision, coordination, management, and regulation. The board sets policy , oversees management of resources (personnel, facilities, and financial), and establishes and monitors educational programs. The board executes its authority through the adoption of policies, approval of programs, selection, and evaluation of institutional executives, and the setting of annual budgets, tuition and fees, and legislative budget requests. Council of Presidents and Superintendents

The Council of Presidents and Superintendents consists of the presidents and superintendents of each institution under the Board of Regent’s control, serving as the senior policy-advisory group

Academic Affairs Council

The Academic Affairs Council is tasked with forming guidelines for consistent oversight of the various academic programs and activities that occur within the schools under the Board of Regents. The council may also engage in study and review of academic programs, academic standards, transfer of courses, and other matters be referred to it by the board, its executive director, the Council of Presidents and Superintendents, or that may come to its attention from other sources.
